For a deeper dive into the story behind Tinnitus Quest, check out the latest edition of the Tinnitus Talk Podcast. This is a great podcast for anyone with a more than passing interest in tinnitus science. (But then again, I might be biased as the host of this podcast.) In this episode, I spend an hour with Sven Köllmann and Dirk de Ridder discussing the background and future of Tinnitus Quest.
Sven talks about why he started Tinnitus Quest out of a drive to “enforce a solution” to the problem of tinnitus. He speaks about why the traditional tinnitus organizations have not been able to foster innovative research. And he stresses the importance of giving hope to those suffering from debilitating tinnitus.
Dirk explains the concept of “war on tinnitus” and how this translates into a practical approach to research, trying out different tactics and different combinations of treatments. He also explains the difference between ‘exploratory’ and ‘solidifying’ science and why the former is key to silencing tinnitus yet very hard to find funding for.
Of course, we also go into the organizational structure of Tinnitus Quest and its plans for fundraising, providing research grants, and bringing together researchers.

Dr. Djalilian published an excellent migraine treatment regimen for tinnitus, which included nortriptyline, topiramate, and verapamil, several years ago.
However, Dr. Djalilian has since developed a new migraine treatment regimen for tinnitus using newer migraine medications. Could you kindly inquire about his updated regimen for tinnitus?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Fred Werber, M.D.
I have been invited to participate in a neurotrophin clinical trial set to begin in 2025, and I’m interested in learning more about the science behind it. Is this a topic that can be explored? Also, is this effort different from or similar to the work being done at CilCare?
